Bombardier’s flagship Global 7500 Jet has strong ties with Mexico. The aft fuselage of this luxurious jet is entirely manufactured at the Bombardier’s Queretaro facility.

“From Queretaro we send (to Canada) the entire aft fuselage, which is relatively a third of the plane with all the integrated systems. We are also making all the harnesses on that plane,” explained the company.

The Global 7500 is a milestone for Bombardier in Mexico because the operation made in Queretaro was specifically designed to be produced in the country. The Mexican team was involved in the initial process. “In the Global 7500 we participate from the design of the process and the design of the structure through our engineers.

This is the first component that is not done in another part of the world first and then transferred to Mexico. It was designed to be made in Mexico,” the company stated. “Mexico has a fundamental and relevant participation
in this program since it was worked from scratch.” The quality of the Global 7500 has been proved.

The jet has already broken several international records. In March 2019, the Global 7500 aircraft flew more than 8,000 nautical miles without a break. It sustained a speed of Mach 0.85 throughout the flight, finally touching down after 16 hours of sustained airtime. This is a record for a purpose-built
business jet, and breaks the advertised range of the craft, which sits at just 7,700 nautical miles. The flight took place between Singapore and Arizona.

Another record quickly followed: the speed record of Mach 0.925, which the aircraft kept up for more than two hours between Los Angeles and New York, and completing the coast-to-coast flight in just three hours and 54 minutes. Just a few days later, the same plane flew from New York to Luton, England in just five hours and 26 minutes, comfortably breaking the record for this journey in spite of some unfavorable winds.

The ability to travel between these destinations sets the craft apart from many others in this category, and removes the need for refueling, experts agreed.

The flagship business jet received type certification from Transport Canada (TC) and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in September and November 2018, respectively.

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification was awarded in February 2019.

In late 2019, Bombardier was in the configuration process for the Global 7500 and was choosing the suppliers to be part of the operation made in Queretaro.

“This is a long journey and the process requires continuous improvement,” said the company. “We have not only learned a lot, but also improved the abilities and competencies as well as learn about the newest technology
used in this aircraft.”

Nowadays, the Global 7500 is one of the most important products for the company. Bombardier said in its latest quarterly report the ramp-up in Global 7500 deliveries contributed to a 16% increase in business aircraft revenues. The aircraft has been in service since December 2018, and six Global 7500s were delivered in the last quarter of 2020, according to Bombardier’s latest quarterly report.

The acceleration in Global 7500 deliveries helped provide a 5% boost in Bombardier’s overall revenues to US$3.7 billion in the first quarter, but a significant decline in order intake that began in March, because of COVID-19-related disruptions, has the company evaluating production-rate adjustments for the rest of the year, Bombardier described in its report.

Moreover, Bombardier is streamlining its aerospace business. Recently, the company announced Latécoère would acquire Bombardier’s electrical wiring interconnection system (EWIS) assets in Queretaro. The transaction
is subject to customary conditions and approvals and is expected to close in the first half of 2020.

Approximately 700 skilled employees are dedicated to the manufacture of EWIS at Bombardier’s facility in Queretaro. Under the longterm supply agreement, Latécoère will continue to supply the EWIS for all Bombardier Aviation platforms, including Global from the current location to support
Bombardier’s requirements. The sale will not impact the remainder of Bombardier’s operations at its Queretaro site, which will continue to
produce major structures for Bombardier aircraft, the company informed.
