Gruma to build production plant in Yucatán

YUCATAN - Gruma, the world's leading corn flour producer, announced that its subsidiary Mission Foods Mexico plans to invest US$25.3 billion over the next six to eight years to build a production plant in the municipality of Hunucmá, in the state of Yucatán.

In a press release, the company stated that the plant will be built to meet the growing demand for products in the southeast of Mexico, and will have an installed capacity of 56,000 tons per year.

In addition, part of the production will also be exported to the southeast region of the United States and Caribbean countries such as the Dominican Republic, among others.

It is estimated that the new plant will create more than 800 direct jobs and more indirect jobs in the Yucatán peninsula, added Gruma.

"Mission's new plant in Yucatán will integrate local supply chains on the peninsula in the supply of raw materials, packaging and general services, thus generating value-added activities and additional jobs for the region's inhabitants," reads the press release.

Mission Foods, a subsidiary of Gruma, is a worldwide producer of tortillas, tostadas and flatbreads, and a major player in the production of snacks.
