Index Juarez celebrates its 50th anniversary
JUAREZ, CHIH - The Maquiladora Association of Ciudad Juarez, AMAC - Index Juarez, celebrated its 50th anniversary with a ceremony at the Cibeles Convention Center, bringing together key figures from the public and private sector who have contributed to the development of the industry in the region.
AMAC-Index Juárez has been a key player in the growth and consolidation of Ciudad Juárez as a hub of the maquiladora industry in Mexico. The association has contributed to the creation of thousands of jobs and to the economic development of the city, positively impacting the quality of life of thousands of families.
During the event, the 31 former presidents of AMAC - Index Juarez were honored for their invaluable contribution to the development of the association. In addition, the work of María Teresa Delgado and Pedro Chavira was recognized for their dedication and support.
The ceremony included the participation of José María Mora, the first president of the Association, who recalled the foundation and the road travelled. The invaluable work of Don Antonio J. Bermudez in the creation of the city's first industrial park was recognized.
Arnulfo Castro, president of AMAC - Index Juárez between 1983 and 1985, thanked the presence of national industry leaders such as Salvador Maese (Index Mexicali) and René Espinoza (Index Chihuahua), and mentioned the crucial work of the association's executive directors throughout its history.
Humberto Martínez Cantú, president of Index Nacional, praised the fundamental role of Ciudad Juárez in the manufacturing industry. "Juarez is the most thriving border city in Mexico and its leadership for 50 years has been fundamental to the country's economy. I thank pioneers like Mr. Mora for his vision and leadership," he said.
The event culminated with the keynote speech "Challenges and Opportunities between Mexico and the United States of America" given by Rosario Marin, former Treasurer of the United States, where she offered her unique vision on the relationship between the two countries and generated valuable reflections among the attendees.
In his participation, the Mayor of Juarez, Cruz Perez Cuellar, emphasized the attractiveness of the city for foreign investment. "Juarez competes with China and other countries, but investment continues to detonate here because of its competitiveness and the conditions it offers. The manufacturing industry generates 9% of the jobs in the sector at a national level", he pointed out.
The 50th anniversary of AMAC - Index Juarez was not only a celebration, but also a space to reflect on the past, present and future of the maquiladora industry in Ciudad Juarez. The collaboration between local and national leaders demonstrated the importance of continuing to promote this vital sector for the region's economy.
