Aerospace companies face challenges for the future

MEXICO - Companies engaged in the manufacture of parts and spare parts in the aerospace sector face three major challenges to ensure their long-term development, said Ricardo Saenz, who is CEO of the company Intellegy.

In a webinar organized by the Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry (FEMIA), the specialist pointed out that, in particular, the first challenge is the reduction of manufacturing and production time.

“The first challenge is the reduction of manufacturing time. But here in particular we have a very specific challenge because they are very particular processes,” said the specialist.

He explained that the aerospace industry registers a “low volume” of deliveries because the manufacturing of components is not that simple. He pointed out that, however, times must be improved, as there are more companies in the market to compete with and an improvement in manufacturing and delivery times is a hallmark.

The second challenge for Saenz is a reduction in production costs. However, he pointed out that in order to meet the hurdle, a “complex” study or analysis is needed to determine in which areas costs can be reduced.

Finally, he mentioned that the third challenge is to generate a consistent and repeatable process, in this sense, he pointed out that manufacturing processes should also aim at a reduction in inventory and warehouse spaces and that such a process should be replicated by all industry participants.

“You have to maintain a stable, reliable and repeatable process that can be cheaper but just as efficient,” he said.

Regarding the case of the industry in Mexico, Saenz pointed out that these challenges are indispensable if we want to take advantage of nearshoring, which is the process of relocation of the industry to North America.

He pointed out that this phenomenon is already impacting the Mexican economy and that the aerospace industry companies must take advantage of the opportunity, however he mentioned that the fulfillment of the mentioned challenges is what will make Mexican companies stand out.
