Trump halts tariffs on Mexico until April 2

MEXICO - The President of the United States, Donald Trump, informed that after speaking with President Claudia Sheinbaum, it was agreed that Mexico will not have to pay tariffs on any goods that are included in the USMCA trade agreement, until April 2.

“After speaking with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico, I have agreed that Mexico will not be required to pay Tariffs on anything that falls under the USMCA Agreement,” Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social.

The Republican said the relationship “has been very good” and thanked Sheinbaum for her “hard work and cooperation.”

“Our relationship has been very good and we are working hard, together, on the border, both in terms of stopping illegal migrants from entering the United States and, likewise, stopping fentanyl,” Trump said.

For her part, the Mexican president described the call as “excellent and respectful”, in which she said they agreed that the work and collaboration have yielded unprecedented results, within the framework of respect for the sovereignty.

“We will continue to work together, particularly on migration and security issues, which include reducing the illegal crossing of fentanyl into the United States, as well as weapons into Mexico. As mentioned by President Trump, Mexico will not be required to pay tariffs on all those products within the USMCA This agreement is until April 2, when the United States will announce reciprocal tariffs for all countries,” Sheinbaum Pardo wrote on her social media.
