Toyota Boosts GR Corolla Power Through Software

Toyota announced that it will offer a software update to owners of 2023 GR Corollas to give these vehicles an additional 22 lb-ft of torque, providing the same performance as a 2025 model.

The update also makes changes to the way the all-wheel-drive (AWD) system distributes power to the wheels for more efficient performance.

With the adjustment, rear-wheel drive mode stops distributing 30% of power to the front axle and 70% to the rear, changing to a 50/50 ratio.

Meanwhile, track mode goes from a fixed 50/50 configuration to an adjustable one that ranges from 60% front and 40% rear to 30% front and 70% rear.

The company said that the free upgrade is a gesture of gratitude to those consumers who believed in this proposal from the outset. However, this update will only be available to customers in Japan for the time being.

It is worth mentioning that although Tesla has been a pioneer in modifying the performance of its models through software, traditional automakers such as Ford are now beginning to adopt this type of service.

The blue oval company offers improvements through software updates on both gasoline and electric versions of the Mustang, as well as on the popular Ford F-150. However, these adjustments come at a substantial cost.
