Stellantis reactivates global production of the RAM 1500 in Coahuila

Stellantis has begun global production of the RAM 1500 Light Duty pickup truck at its industrial complex in Saltillo, Coahuila, marking a strategic milestone for both the automaker and the country's industry.

This reopening of production in Mexico represents a firm commitment to the region and the North American market, reaffirming Saltillo as a key location in international automotive manufacturing.

The official announcement was led by Carlos Rivera, senior vice president of Manufacturing at Stellantis Mexico, who highlighted that the expansion of the Saltillo Heavy Duty complex will allow the resumption of production of this model, which had been halted in recent years.

Rivera explained that this new start-up is made possible by a dedicated area equipped with state-of-the-art technology, capable of supplying both Mexico and Canada and other international markets.

The complex covers 166,000 m² and has a body shop equipped with 370 robots, as well as a paint line with 92 robots and another specifically for painting boxes with 36 robots. In total, the complex operates three main assembly lines. This infrastructure makes the plant one of the group's most modern in North America for this type of vehicle.

A notable feature is that the Saltillo plant will be the first in North America within the Stellantis group to carry out the sub-assembly of seats for the RAM 1500 Light Duty model in-house, which increases local value-added content and improves production efficiency.

Likewise, as part of its sustainability and corporate social responsibility actions, a wastewater treatment plant was incorporated, reinforcing the brand's environmental commitment.

The plant currently operates on a single shift, but is ready to start a second shift, which will increase its production capacity to a rate of up to 40 units per hour. This could bring annual production to 163,000 units, along with the creation of more than 2,000 direct jobs in the region.

These figures are a clear sign of the project's importance for the state of Coahuila, whose governor, Manolo Jiménez Salinas, recognized the quality of the local workforce and the prestige earned by the RAM trucks produced in the region.

The CEO of Stellantis Mexico, Daniel González, also highlighted the strength of the human capital in Coahuila and the commitment of its workers to taking a world-class vehicle beyond the borders.

The event was attended by authorities from the municipality of Saltillo, the state, and corporate executives, demonstrating the synergy between government, industry, and the working community.

This relaunch of RAM 1500 Light Duty production takes on special importance in a global context in which automotive supply chains are seeking to optimize costs, shorten delivery times, and strengthen regional capabilities.

For Mexico, positioning itself as the export base for such an important vehicle also reinforces its profile as a manufacturing powerhouse within the North American trade agreement.

In short, the launch of this new production process by Stellantis in Saltillo combines high technology, capacity expansion, added local content, and environmental commitment. It is a clear sign that the Mexican automotive sector continues to be a strategic player in the global industry and that investment projects focused on added value and exports can have a significant impact on employment, regional development, and international competitiveness.
