Consumer confidence in Mexico decreases

In March, Mexico’s consumer confidence index reflected caution and uncertainty among consumers, which was evident in their spending power and purchasing capacity, according to data from INEGI.

The Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) stood at 44.1 points, representing a monthly decline of 0.3 points in March, following a previous increase of 0.3 points and a drop of 0.5 points in January.

Meanwhile, compared to March 2025, the CCI fell by 2 points; with the annual decline in the third month of the year, consumer confidence has now recorded 15 consecutive downward readings.

Although a slight improvement was observed in households’ economic perception, the indicator showed negative outlook for the country—both in its current and future components—with declines of 1.2 points and no change.

Likewise, perceptions regarding household finances showed greater resilience, but with fragility in families’ purchasing power, as this fell by 1.2 points in the month-over-month measurement for March.

Data from the National Survey on Consumer Confidence, conducted among 2,336 urban households nationwide—jointly produced by INEGI and the Bank of Mexico—showed that households’ current purchasing power fell by 2 points.

Mexican households expressed less optimism regarding their current economic situation compared to 12 months ago, as well as regarding expected future conditions, with a decline of 0.9 points in each case in March.
