Mazda Reaches 2 Million Vehicles in Guanajuato

Mazda’s plant in Salamanca has reached a production milestone of 2 million vehicles, a milestone that reinforces its position as one of the most important automotive complexes in the Bajío region and a key driver of industrial development in Guanajuato.
This achievement comes just over a decade after the complex began operations, having been inaugurated on January 6, 2014. Since then, the automaker has maintained steady growth, driven by its strategic location in Salamanca, which facilitates logistics, exports, and connections to international markets.
The vehicle that marked this milestone was a poly-metal gray Mazda CX-30 Signature, assembled at the same plant that reached its first million vehicles in 2020. In less than six years, production doubled, reflecting the site’s operational consolidation and the growing demand for the models manufactured there.
During the commemorative event—held months after the milestone was reached in January—Guanajuato Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo emphasized that this achievement is the result of sustained collaboration between the company and the state.
“The production of 2 million vehicles at the Mazda plant in Salamanca represents not only an industrial achievement, but also a story of trust and collaboration,” the governor said.
She also highlighted the role of local talent in this process:
“Today we celebrate the production of 2 million vehicles at the Mazda plant in Salamanca, an achievement that represents years of effort, talent, and dedication. Each of these vehicles carries the DNA not only of Japan, but also of the people of Guanajuato—the men and women who give their all every day.”
The governor also emphasized that this case represents a solid partnership based on trust, teamwork, and a long-term vision—factors that have positioned Guanajuato as a global automotive leader.
The event brought together executives from the Japanese firm, including Takeshi Ishibashi, President and CEO of Mazda de México; Kiyotaka Shobuda, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mazda Motor Corporation; and Takuji Iwashita, Vice President of Mazda North America. In her remarks, the state governor thanked the company for its confidence in the state and its commitment to the region’s industrial development.
