Wind energy projects rise in Mexico

Wind energy is gaining a larger share of Mexico’s energy mix, where the official target is to generate up to 45% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The sector’s expansion is reflected in the approval of 20 projects by the end of 2025, while another 28 are awaiting authorization from the Ministry of Energy and the Mexican Wind Energy Association.

The growth of wind energy in Mexico is linked to the need to diversify the energy mix and reduce emissions; the scale of new developments requires greater coordination among developers, infrastructure providers, and authorities.

This also increases pressure on the supply chain, from component manufacturing to on-site installation. The availability of specialized equipment and technical personnel directly influences project commissioning timelines.

With new permits in the pipeline and a rising flow of investment, wind energy is establishing itself as a key component of the country’s energy strategy, with growing requirements for technical, logistical, and execution capabilities to sustain its growth in the coming years.
