Mexico will invest US$43 billion to improve electric grid

The Ministry of Energy (SENER) announced an investment of nearly US$43 billion and the addition of 32 GW of electricity generation capacity by 2030, as part of the “Plan for the Strengthening and Expansion of the National Electric System 2025–2030.”

During the event “Facilities for Investment in the Electricity Sector,” the agency’s head, Luz Elena Gonzalez Escobar, presented three instruments aimed at facilitating private participation in energy projects and accelerating the development of electricity infrastructure in the country:

The first of these mechanisms consists of private generation projects, through which companies may participate individually in the construction of renewable energy power plants.

The second focuses on strategic storage and generation projects, either independently or through joint ventures with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).

The third component is the Single Window for Self-Consumption: a platform designed to streamline procedures and processes for industries and groups interested in producing their own energy.

The Energy Minister indicated that the plan integrates various actions and projects promoted by the Mexican government to strengthen the reliability of the National Electric System.
