Mazda renews the CX-3: Pursuing a more compact SUV

Mazda has confirmed the development of a new generation of the CX-3, a model that remains popular in markets such as Mexico despite its age and that now aims to strengthen the brand’s presence in the compact SUV segment, one of the highest-volume segments globally.

The information was announced during the company’s most recent financial results presentation, where the company noted that production of the new CX-3 will begin next year at its plant in Thailand. The company also indicated that this model will be key to strengthening its position in the compact SUV category.

The Mazda CX-3 entered the Mexican market in mid-2015 and currently remains one of the longest-standing vehicles in the brand’s portfolio. In 2022, production for the domestic market was moved to the plant in Salamanca, Guanajuato, where it continues to be assembled alongside the Mazda2, a model with which it shares a platform and various components.

Among the options being considered are mild-hybrid systems and possible hybrid versions, depending on the needs of each market. Mazda also made it clear that fully electric variants are not being considered for this model.
