Air cargo in Mexico grows 5.5%

Air cargo traffic at Mexico’s major airports showed growth during the first five months of 2026. According to the figures presented, the total volume of cargo handled reached 507 metric tons between January and May, compared to 481 metric tons during the same period in 2025, representing an increase of 26,470 metric tons, or 5.5%.
In May 2026, the system handled 104,723 metric tons, compared to 102,570 metric tons recorded in May 2025—an increase of 2.1 metric tons, equivalent to 2.1%.
In the domestic freight segment, the cumulative volume decreased slightly from 151,929.6 to 151,170.0 metric tons, a reduction of 759.6 metric tons, equivalent to 0.5%. During May, domestic cargo totaled 31,429.8 metric tons, compared to 32,808.0 metric tons in the same month of 2025, representing a decrease of 1,378.2 metric tons (4.2%).
Within this segment, Queretaro maintained its lead with 24,074.9 metric tons, an increase of 1,318.5 metric tons (5.8%) compared to the 22,756.3 metric tons recorded the previous year. The AICM recorded 21,822.0 metric tons (+1.6%), while Monterrey saw a 9.5% increase, reaching 14,999.4 metric tons. Ciudad Juarez also stood out, recording the highest percentage growth—a 63.2% increase—rising from 3,141.0 to 5,125.2 metric tons.
International cargo saw more dynamic growth. Between January and May, 356,622.5 metric tons were handled, compared to 329,392.7 metric tons in 2025—an increase of 27,229.7 metric tons, equivalent to 8.3%. In May, the volume grew from 69,762.2 to 73,293.5 metric tons, an increase of 3,531.3 metric tons (5.1%).
