Manufacturing output in Baja California is on the rise.

The state of Baja California has reported an increase in manufacturing output and real annual growth of 5.9% for the month of July, according to Kurt Honold Morales, Secretary of Economy and Innovation.

Among the categories with the strongest positive results, the food industry stood out with real growth of 18.6%, followed by the transportation equipment manufacturing sector, with 9.5%. In addition, increases were recorded in the plastics and rubber sectors (3.7%), the beverages and tobacco sector (3.0%), and the furniture, mattresses, and blinds manufacturing sector (1.3%).

However, there were declines in the following categories: textiles (-0.3%), metal products (-1.9%), the paper industry (-3.3%), basic metal industries (-5.0%), the chemical industry (-6.5%), and nonmetallic mineral products (-9.6%). The most notable declines were in other manufacturing industries (-19.9%), wood products (-29.1%), and machinery and equipment (-43.9%).

The figures presented were derived from the production data recorded in the Monthly Manufacturing Industry Survey (EMIM) conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), whose current amounts have been deflated using the National Producer Price Index (INPP).
