Nuevo León and Laredo are investing US$200 million in Puerto Colombia.
Nuevo León and the city of Ladero are preparing for the construction of two new international bridges at Puerto Colombia. This project involves a binational investment of approximately US$200 million, contributed in equal parts, with the aim of expanding the crossing’s operational capacity and ensuring the flow of cross-border trade.
On the second day of Governor Samuel García’s working tour of Texas, plans were announced for this construction to begin in May of next year, highlighting an operational design that includes a bridge exclusively for freight traffic and another that will handle the flow of empty vehicles.
This new structure is intended to support the expansion of the border crossing facility, which has seen its daily volume increase tenfold—from 800 to nearly 8,000 crossings—with a projected total of 15,000 by 2030.
The expansion to Puerto Colombia addresses the state's current logistical needs and establishes a long-term binational cross-border platform with Texas for the coming decades.
