SSA Marine Mexico Prepares for Growth at Three Ports
SSA Marine Mexico, a company specializing in port terminals, expects to begin operations soon in Guaymas, in addition to preparing expansion projects for the ports of Manzanillo and Progreso, through which it aims to increase the country’s port capacity.
Manuel Fernandez, the company’s CEO, stated in an interview with the newspaper Info-Transportes that the Guaymas concession enables the handling of containers and general cargo; meanwhile, the company is seeking to expand the installed capacity of the Port of Manzanillo, and at the Port of Progreso, work is underway to widen the navigation channel and expand its cruise ship terminal.
SSA Marine Mexico has grown from handling 150,000 units—equivalent to 20-foot containers (TEUs)—at the first terminal in the Port of Manzanillo to handling 2.1 million units per year in Mexico.
As a result, the company now operates in seven ports and is active in the container, automotive, hydrocarbons, general cargo, and cruise ship sectors.
Furthermore, Fernandez is responsible for analyzing growth prospects and the broader context in his role as president of the Manzanillo Association of Terminals and Operators (ASTOM) and is monitoring investment projects that could generate billions of dollars by the year 2030.
