Querétaro Vehicle Sales Fall 2.5%
New vehicle sales in Querétaro declined 2.5% year over year from January through September 2026, totaling 25,979 units, according to the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA). Despite the cumulative decline, the market showed signs of improvement in September.
This progress arrives following a complex year for the industry, which saw a 2.6% year-over-year contraction in the year's first half; and sales subsequently fell 10.4% in July, to suffer a new decline in August.
During the third quarter, the state recorded sales of 2,966 new vehicles, ranking tenth nationwide. Querétaro accounted for 2.4% of Mexico’s total new vehicle market.
“New vehicle sales from January through September totaled 25,979 units. We once again ranked tenth nationwide and continue to see a slight decline of 2.5% compared with the previous year, a trend that has persisted throughout the year,” said Laura Rodríguez Miranda, president of AMDA Querétaro.
Rodríguez expressed optimism about the sector’s prospects for the remainder of the year, noting that stronger sales could help offset the cumulative decline.
“We’re also hoping to end the year with somewhat higher sales and, at the very least, make up for the 2.5% shortfall. Vehicles are no longer sold exclusively in the state capital; dealerships also serve customers in Corregidora, San Juan del Río, El Marqués, and Huimilpan,” she said.
According to AMDA’s report, dealerships operating in Querétaro sell approximately 97 cars and trucks per day.
During the first nine months of the year, trucks and multipurpose vehicles accounted for the largest share of sales, representing 58.9% of the market, or 15,303 units. This total comprised 10,455 multipurpose vehicles and 4,848 trucks.
Cars accounted for the remaining 41.1%, totaling 10,676 units. These included 9,223 subcompact and compact cars, 1,357 luxury vehicles, and 96 sports cars.
The municipality of Querétaro accounted for the largest share of cumulative sales, with 16,383 units, or approximately 63% of the state total. Corregidora, San Juan del Río, El Marqués, Huimilpan, and other municipalities outside the metropolitan area accounted for the remainder.
