Baja California Strengthens Space Cooperation
Baja California’s state government took a decisive step toward consolidating its role as a regional leader in technological innovation and the space economy through its participation in the Digital and Green Innovation Summit Latam, held in Santiago, Chile, in October.
Dulce Rodríguez López, Director of Innovation and Technology at the Secretariat of Economy and Innovation (SEI), highlighted the transformative potential of space technologies for productive development and local sustainability in statements to the media.
“The use of satellite data and Earth observation presents an opportunity to develop solutions for strategic sectors such as agribusiness, maritime activities, energy, and the environment. These tools make it possible to optimize resources and protect the environment,” the government official stated.
Representatives from Baja California, accompanied by officials from Mexico’s Ministry of Economy, held meetings with international organizations, universities, and leaders from innovation ecosystems across Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe.
The main objective of these meetings was to strengthen institutional cooperation networks and promote sustainable technology projects.
Furthermore, the Institute of Entrepreneurship and the SEI’s Office of Strategic Projects presented initiatives focused on applied research to address local and regional challenges, establishing networks of mentors specializing in technology transfer, and promoting green ventures and businesses with a positive environmental impact.
The state’s participation in the event coincided with the International Conference on Space and Sustainable Development (CEDS 2026), a forum where global leaders discussed priorities related to digital transformation and the ecological transition.
This agenda reflects Baja California’s commitment to strengthening international ties and positioning the state as an innovation hub, creating new opportunities for multilateral cooperation and sustainable economic growth.
