KIO Plans Further Data Center Expansion

Technology firm KIO Data Centers is evaluating the possibility of developing a mega-complex in Querétaro, representing an estimated investment of more than US$1 billion.

The project would mark a major step in the evolution from traditional nearshoring toward the concept of techshoring, enabling Mexico to expand its participation in advanced services such as data storage, high-performance computing, and value-added data processing for the North American market and major global hyperscalers.

The feasibility of the complex in Querétaro depends on securing land and sufficient energy resources. However, given the scale of the investment and the project's technical requirements, its development will also depend on securing key offtake agreements with strategic customers to ensure its operational viability before construction begins.

While evaluating this large-scale development, KIO continues to advance infrastructure projects in Mexico and Central America, with developments underway in Monterrey, Mexico City, Panama, and Guatemala.

The company's roadmap for 2027 also includes adding two new data centers in Querétaro, expanding capacity in Monterrey, and identifying a new site for development in Tultitlán, State of Mexico. These initiatives aim to serve the domestic market while also providing infrastructure for international hyperscalers.
