KIA Motors Mexico (KMM) has reduced by 22% its dependence on the U.S. market in the two years of manufacturing operations in the country, an official recently revealed to Notimex.
While in 2016 the Korean automaker exported 85% of its production to the U.S. market, that percentage was reduced to 63% during 2017 and is expected to remain at that level by the end of 2018, said KMM CEO Horacio Chavez.
It is worth noting that despite this measure, the KIA Forte, one of the cars produced in Mexico, is one of the company's best-selling models in the neighboring country. However, this has not been an obstacle for the vehicles manufactured in Pesqueria, Nuevo Leon to reach 65 countries this year.
KIA plans to produce 314,000 units this year, of which 153,000 will be Forte, 96,000 will be Rio and the remaining 65,000 will be Accent, the latter from its sister company Hyundai. All models are manufactured in both sedan and hatchback versions.
