Lear Corporation plans to set up a new manufacturing plant in the municipality of Meoqui, Chihuahua, Autonews MĂ©xico reported in recent days citing as source a state Government official.
Fabián Santana, head of Chihuahua state’s Investment Promotion Department, said that the company plans to invest US$ 13 million and to open 2,000 job positions through this operation aimed to produce textile materials for automotive seating.
According to the official, the company just bought the building and its working at fast pace to get the site operational by May.Â
It is worth noting that the region where the new plant will be installed stands out for its cotton production and is home to several companies that produce textile materials for apparel companies. However, it is unknown whether said factor influenced the decision to open a plant in that location.
The new facility will be Lear’s 16th plant in the state, since the company also operates ten manufacturing sites in Ciudad Juárez, two in Chihuahua state capital and one each in the towns of Nuevo Casas Grandes, Ascension and Villa Ahumada. It will also be the 47th plant in Mexico.Â
During the last four years the company has opened 12 plants in the country. The auto supplier estimates its Mexican workforce totaled 56,000 employees by the end of 2017.
