The reopening of the construction industry in Sonora comes at a good time: CMIC

HERMOSILLO – The announcement of the gradual return to economic activities and the incorporation of the construction, mining and auto parts industry will benefit the recovery of the economy in the state of Sonora, agreed business leaders.

"The construction industry will impact the return of about 6,000 workers in works that were stopped in several points of the state," said Alfonso Reina Villegas, president of the Mexican Chamber of Construction Industry (CMIC).

Reina Villegas reported that the Economic Reactivation Plan announced by the federal government comes at a good time and explained that they were dedicated to training in safety protocols for workers and those in charge of the works within the companies affiliated to the CMIC during the period in which the industry was stopped.

"We have to understand that this is a reactivation that is subject to a new reality, where as a sector we must have the appropriate protocols in each of the companies in order to work," he said.

For his part, the president of Index in Sonora, Gerardo Vazquez Falcon, said that about 70% of maquiladora and manufacturing companies for export in Sonora could resume activities as they belong to the manufacturing of transport parts.

He stressed that the manufacture of transport equipment in Sonora, represents about 70% of CMIC affiliates, which could restart operations in the coming weeks.

Vazquez Falcon acknowledged as well that health and safety protocols should be implemented to prevent the spread of the virus and stressed that in order to resume economic activities, it is necessary for society to assume them as a responsibility so that non-essential activities can restart operations as soon as possible.
