Artificial Intelligence, key to the future of logistics in Mexico

MEXICO - Artificial intelligence (AI) is a tool capable of revolutionizing the production and logistics industry in Mexico, said operations leaders surveyed by Samsara, a fleet management platform.

According to a study by the firm, 94% of experts consider it necessary to invest in AI solutions to remain competitive. In addition, 87% of organizations plan to increase their investment in AI in the next 12 months.

However, the platform considered that Mexico faces significant challenges in terms of investment, regulation and government support.

“The country has shown progress in the adoption of AI in physical operations. Some 50% of operations leaders make widespread use in their organizations.”

However, it stated that the industry is still lagging behind compared to other markets, due to the lack of an adequate regulatory framework and increased government attention.

For Álvaro Echeverría, CEO of SimpliRoute, Mexico cannot miss out on the potential that this trend offers for its economic development.

According to the expert, the adoption of artificial intelligence can transform logistics in Mexico by improving inventory management, delivery route optimization and sales demand estimation.

“Tools like Nowport and Adereso AI are already demonstrating the positive impact AI can have on the supply chain. However, we need a stronger commitment from all stakeholders to maximize these benefits,” said Echeverría.

According to Mordor Intelligence, it is estimated that the domestic cargo and logistics market will close 2024 with US$136.11 billion, with a growth projection of up to US$171.40 billion in 2029, at a compound annual rate of 4.72%.

This growth in transportation has strengthened the competitiveness of Mexico's exports, which reached US$590.93 billion in 2022. It should be noted that 81.2% of these exports went to the United States and Canada, highlighting a trade dependence with Mexico.
