CANACERO strikes agreement with the government

The National Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (CANACERO) welcomed the Agreement to Promote the Mexican Steel Industry, announced during Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning press conference.
The business organization noted that the agreement is structured around three fundamental commitments: promoting public procurement of domestic steel, industrial policy, and financing, with the aim of boosting consumption of steel produced in Mexico, increasing domestic content, and substituting imports.
Sergio de la Maza, president of CANACERO, emphasized that the agreement will protect nearly 90,000 direct jobs and secure investments totaling US$8 billion.
The chamber thanked various ministries, public companies, and federal government agencies for their participation, as well as the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC) and the National Chamber of the Housing Development and Promotion Industry (CANADEVI), organizations that also signed the agreement and committed to purchasing the steel they use in their construction projects and works from Mexico.
CANACERO reiterated its commitment to undertaking what it called a historic mission with the responsibility the country demands, complementing the agreement with competitiveness, the creation of formal employment, and the strengthening of the metalworking value chain, in coordination with authorities and sector stakeholders.
