The mayor of the municipality of Corregidora, Queretaro, which borders the state capital, revealed to local media about negotiations with a group of Chinese companies that are interested in installing manufacturing operations in that region.

According to Roberto Sosa Pichardo, these companies––between 10 and 12––are dedicated to the manufacture of automotive parts, and they’re planning to become suppliers of the plant that Toyota currently builds in the neighboring municipality of Apaseo el Grande, Guanajuato.

Although the official did not speak in terms of investments or number of jobs that would be generated if any agreements were made, he stressed that the reason for negotiating with the companies in bulk is because they intend to develop an industrial park from where they can operate together.

Sosa Pichardo clarified that there is still no specific agreement and that they face competition with developers from the north of the country where the Chinese manufacturers have also been offered facilities to settle.
