Consumer Confidence Index grows in Mexico

Mexico’s Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) improved in the wake of the World Cup; INEGI reported that the country scored 43.8 points in June, marking a monthly increase of 0.4 points following a decline the previous month.

The monthly rebound was driven by four of the index’s five components:

Perceptions of households’ current economic situation rose by 1.2 points, while perceptions of current ability to purchase durable goods—such as furniture, televisions, or appliances—increased by 1.1 points. Perceptions of the country’s current economic situation also improved, rising by 0.7 points, as did expectations regarding the national economy over the next 12 months, which increased by 0.3 points.

The start of the World Cup may have coincided with increased activity in consumption, tourism, and services, especially in the host cities. Banamex estimates that the World Cup will have a positive impact of 0.1 percentage points on national GDP in 2026, driven by increased tourism and consumption, with the most visible effects in Mexico City, Jalisco, and Nuevo Leon.
