Audi could build a second plant in Mexico to assemble its A3 sedan, revealed a local newspaper in Puebla, where the company opened a production site last year.
Citing company officials, El Sol de Puebla revealed the German automaker is vaguely working on the idea of a “mirror plant” inside the San Jose Chiapa complex to build the A3.
Belbin Ventura Ordonez, Planning Production Chief for Audi Mexico, dismissed rumors about intentions to build a bigger SUV such as the Q6, but a smaller unit such as the A3 is feasible, he said.
The announcement comes just hours after Audi CEO Rupert Stadler said at the company’s annual conference the Puebla facility is in the works to make a hybrid version for the Q5 out of the same production line of gasoline and diesel-engine units.
Stadler said also a full electric Q5 featuring Audi’s e-tron technology is on the way, without commenting further details.
