Germany-based manufacturer Thyssenkrupp opens US$80-million expansion in Puebla

German manufacturer Thyssenkrupp in recent days held the inauguration of a US$ 80-million expansion at its manufacturing site located in the municipality of Huejotzingo, Puebla, local media reported.

Part of the investment was allocated to the opening of production lines dedicated to the manufacture of steering boxes for automakers such as Ford, BMW and Daimler.

Another part was allocated to expand the output capacity of the thermal treatment plant, which provides cold-forged products to other Tier 1 automotive suppliers such as GNK, Dana, Nexteer, American XL, Neapco and IFA. The expansion plan required the opening of 300 job positions.

Thyssenkrupp started operations in Puebla 20 years ago as a supplier for Volkswagen. The company inaugurated its fourth plant in the state a couple of years ago to support the operations of Audi, to which they supply the rear and front axles of the Q5 model.

Overall, Thyssenkrupp operates seven manufacturing sites in Mexico: one plant in San Luis Potosi, four plants in Puebla and a ‘twin location’ in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.

The company also operates three warehouses for the distribution of materials for the metal-mechanic industry in Puebla; Saltillo, Coahuila and Silao, Guanajuato, where it has a blanking line for steel and aluminum.
