It took 11 months of the current year for Audi Mexico to surpass the overall production volume of 2017 at its plant located in San Jose Chiapa, Puebla, data from the Inegi revealed.

According to the administrative record of the automotive industry, Audi Mexico produced 163,278 SUVs Q5 from January to November, a figure that exceeds in 21,604 units, the volume of production achieved in the same period of 2017. This figure also exceeds the 158,550 units built throughout the 2017.

Union leaders announced in recent days to local media that they expected to end the year with slightly more than 170,000 vehicles built. The officials added that, although the growth is evident, at the beginning of the year the expectation was to build between 175,000 and 180,000 units.

However, and since the demand for the vehicle was slightly lower than expected, the plant idled operations twice this year to adjust production volumes.

Audi officially began production of the Q5 in Puebla on September 30, 2016.
