Mexican businessmen in the U.S. encourage cooperation with Trump
MEXICO - The Association of Mexican Businessmen in the United States (AEM) reaffirmed its commitment to cooperation and the creation of synergies, and called on its members to be resilient in the face of Trump's new decisions that could impact the bilateral trade relationship.
“We understand the challenges presented by this new administration and reiterate our intention to work closely with the business sector in the United States to foster a robust business environment. Our strength lies in cooperation, not confrontation,” said Salomon Sacal, president of AEM in Mexico.
The leader of Mexican businessmen also highlighted that one of the most relevant issues during the beginning of Donald Trump's administration is the possibility that the United States will impose tariffs of 25% on Mexican exports if issues such as drug trafficking and migration are not addressed.
He said that it is a complex situation, although a conciliatory approach is required.
“In the face of the challenge posed by the possible imposition of tariffs, it is key to foster collaboration among stakeholders. This requires strengthening joint efforts and establishing effective communication channels between both sides of the border to ensure an agile and coordinated response that benefits us equally," said Sacal.
He added that in view of the USMCA review scheduled for 2026, businessmen will be on the lookout, with a respectful and proactive attitude.
