Nuevo Leon accounts 11.4% of the economic impact

The state of Nuevo Leon expects to receive up to 11.4% of the nationwide economic impact of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, resulting in an estimated US$40 million for small and medium-sized businesses in the region.

Catalina Dominguez Estrada, president of the National Chamber of Commerce for Small Businesses, Services, and Tourism (CANACOPE) in Nuevo Leon, noted that during the early days of the sporting event, approximately US$994 million in economic impact was projected nationwide, with Monterrey alone expected to see a direct economic impact of US$114 million in the initial phase.

The sectors that saw the greatest growth during those days were restaurants, bars, transportation services, lodging, and retail—including stores selling sporting goods, convenience stores, and corner stores.

After the Mexican National Soccer Team concluded its participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it became evident through social media and local media in the Monterrey metropolitan area that commercial and cultural activity had significantly declined; therefore, it is expected that by mid-July, the figures will close out favorably for merchants.
