Office workers at Volkswagen Mexico call for CBA

Administrative workers at Volkswagen Mexico have begun the process of union organizing to seek the signing of a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) that guarantees job security, better pay, and protection of their benefits.

The initiative was announced by the General Union of Mexico (UGM), an organization that has been officially recognized and aims to represent approximately 6,000 workers across the German automaker’s three entities, including staff at the Cuautlancingo plant in Puebla, the engine plant in Silao, Guanajuato, and corporate offices in Mexico City.

Hiram Sanchez, general secretary of the UGM, explained that the goal is to represent employees in labor relations and production at Volkswagen Mexico, as well as at its subsidiaries Volkswagen Group Services and Volkswagen Academy.

The UGM leader explained that they have already begun collecting the 1,800 signatures required by the Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration to obtain certification of representativeness—equivalent to 30% of the workforce—and thus be able to negotiate the new collective bargaining agreement. So far, he acknowledged, they have gathered around 250 members in this initial process.
