As previously announced, executives of the Italian tire manufacturer Pirelli held a ceremony to commemorate the production of 20 million tires at the industrial complex located in Silao, Guanajuato.

At the event, Tom Gravalos, CEO of Pirelli Mexico, revealed that the Silao site is the third in production capacity of the 19 that the company has around the world, surpassed only by plants in Romania and Brazil.

In November 2011, Pirelli started operations in Silao and opened a second plant in 2017, with an investment of approximately US$ 200 million. The Mexico complex currently produces 6 million tires a year out of the 70 million that the company manufactures worldwide.

From Guanajuato, premium and super premium tires are supplied to the United States, Canada, Mexico and 40 other countries in four different continents, both for the retail market and car manufacturers. Among its main customers are Ford, BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz and Audi.

Although at the moment there are no new investments to announce, Gravalos said that “there is still a lot of land next to the plant,” so he remains optimistic that “one day the company will give us more money to invest and keep growing.”
