Rock West Composites, a Utah-based manufacturer specialized in carbon fiber tubes and plates announced it has opened a new production facility in Tijuana, Baja California in order to expand its capabilities to rapidly respond in an ever more competitive environment.

“Due to rapid business growth, the company is simultaneously expanding its production capability at its U.S. locations and across the border. While strategically moving into binational operations, the business is enabling globally competitive pricing for specific customer projects,” said Rock West in a statement.

Rock West Composites expects to boost its significant year-over-year growth by winning new types of contracts that would have been out of reach previously. Neither the amount of investment nor the job positions opened at the new facility were disclosed.

The new Tijuana location will be doing production work using manufacturing processes including resin infusion, bladder molding, roll wrapping, wet layup, and precision composite assembly. The building also has an area for clean manufacturing requirements.

U.S.-based production projects and employment are also growing, as are the engineering, product development, and prototyping services that are performed at the San Diego and Salt Lake City locations.

“This new operation will enable us to better service our customers by enabling more focused production in our US locations,” James Gormican, CEO of Rock West Composites, said. “And the competitiveness of a binational operation will give us the ability to fulfill more diverse customer requirements, attracting programs that would have otherwise gone overseas.”

Heading up the new location is Mr. Carlos Arganda. With twenty years of experience managing manufacturing facilities for binational operations, Mr. Arganda also has over a decade of experience in composites manufacturing.

“We see this as an opportunity to grow the entire business by maximizing the economic opportunities of this region. San Diego and Tijuana have a history of supporting cross border business growth, recognizing that when our neighbors succeed, so do we,” Arganda said.

Rock West Composites provides composite products for variety of markets and customers. Specializing in carbon fiber composites, the business offers in-stock products, including tubes, plates and complementary materials, as well as custom products and services, such as product development, engineering services, prototyping, and manufacturing.

Manufacturing methods include filament winding, roll wrap, resin infusion, bladder molding, and modified closed mold processes.
