Sales of heavy vehicles grew by 26% in January

MEXICO – Retail sales of heavy vehicles in Mexico increased in January 2023, where automotive companies achieved the highest sales in the last 5 years for the same month, surpassing the pre-pandemic figures.

According to INEGI figures, the companies that are part of the National Association of Manufacturers of Buses, Trucks and Tractors (ANPACT) and the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA) sold 3,276 units, which represents a 26% growth compared to the same month in 2022.

Guillermo Rosales, president of AMDA, stated that during the first month of 2023, 677 more heavy units were sold compared to January 2022. Although he specified that last year sales increased with respect to 2021.

"There is recovery of heavy vehicles in 2022 versus 2021. Although the heavy-duty industry was affected by the shortage of components and semiconductors, the impact was minor and there is firm data that this year the number of units sold prior to the pandemic will be reversed," he said at a press conference.
