Spain-based X-ELIO unveils plan to build US$ 97-million solar farm in Ciudad Juarez
Officials from Spain-based photovoltaic power plants developer X-ELIO recently unveiled plans to build a solar farm 20 miles South of Ciudad Juarez, in the Northern state of Chihuahua.
The facility will require an estimated investment of US$ 97 million and is expected to have an output capacity of 80 MW (93 MWp), enough to power up 49,000 households in the region, local media reported.
Construction work is scheduled to begin at the start of 2019. The company plans to recruit 400 temporary workers for a 10-month term, in order to install the 268,160 photovoltaic solar power modules with 345 and 350 Wp of power and 18 inverter centers with 5.1 MVA each for 93.18 installed MWp in a 300-hectare area.
The photovoltaic modules will be installed on 1-axis single-row solar power trackers. An integrated remote management system is planned to record operating data from the system. A transformer substation with a 34.5/115 kW power factor and a 115-kW aerial evacuation line will be built to evacuate the energy generated by the photovoltaic plant.
The project will cut out the equivalent of 1.8 million tons of carbon dioxide over the next 20 years. The electricity generated will be transferred to the subsidiary of the national network of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) in charge of servicing residential and small consumers at regulated rates.
The plant, awarded in the second long-term auction convened by the National Center for Energy Control of Mexico (CENACE), has already signed long-term purchase-sale contracts for products, specifically 20 years for clean energy certificates and 15 years for energy and power.
The project is part of the first group of operations closed according to Mexico Energy Reform, effective since August 2014, which establishes a restructuring of the energy industry aimed to reduce costs and tariffs, to increase the use of clean energy to reduce the carbon footprint, and to encourage the participation of the private sector, guaranteeing transparency in the sector.
