Stellantis Postpones Production of Extended-Range Models

Stellantis has postponed the start of production of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer EREV (extended-range electric vehicle) until November at the Warren Truck Assembly plant, located near Detroit, Michigan.

The start of regular production was originally scheduled for last May, according to an announcement the company made earlier this year. However, it was decided to postpone the date by approximately six months to ensure that the launch “goes

smoothly and without a hitch,” according to a memo sent to suppliers and obtained by AutoNews.

The decision also affected the Ram 1500 REV extended-range pickup truck, which was also originally set to debut in the middle of this year but will now be delayed even further, until mid-April 2027.

Stellantis spokespeople contacted by the publication did not characterize the decision as a delay and insisted that the SUV will launch in 2026, albeit later than initially planned.

Supplier sources indicate that the problem lies with the shared powertrain, not the truck itself. Executives told AutoNews that the additional months are intended to facilitate the implementation of the 400-volt battery and electric motor that will be used in both extended-range programs.

This shared hardware is also what links the success of the Grand Wagoneer to that of the Ram. Any problem or setback in one program typically affects the timeline of the other, especially when both rely on the same series hybrid configuration.

In both cases, the batteries will be powered by a Pentastar engine acting as an on-board generator.
