Tequila exports increase by 32%

MEXICO – In the first four months of the year, tequila exports continued to rise. According to figures from the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), from January to April of this year, 125.5 million liters of the Mexican beverage were exported.

This represents an increase of 32.1 percent compared to the same four-month period last year, when 95 million liters were shipped abroad.

“The United States continues in first place among the countries that import the beverage the most, registering consumption of 104.9 million liters during January, February, March and April of this year, which means an increase of 27 percent against what was shipped in the same period of 2021, when it was 82.6 million,” according to the CRT.

By category, 79.8 million liters of 100 percent Tequila (pure agave) were exported, or 29.5 percent more than in the same four-month period last year.

Meanwhile, 45.8 million liters of Tequila (agave and honeys from other sources) were exported, 37.1 percent more than in the first four months of 2021.

On the other hand, tequila production in both categories grew by 24.5 percent during the first four months of the year, registering 199.1 million liters compared to the 159.8 million liters reported in the same period of 2021.

Agave consumption also grew in the first four months of the year, since 788.8 thousand tons of agave were used, 26.8 percent more than the 622.1 thousand tons consumed in the same period of 2021.
