Yucatan receives US$54 million for modernization

The Puerto de Altura de Progreso in Yucatan has begun a new phase of modernization with a private investment of US$54 million from SSA Marine Mexico, aimed at expanding the cruise terminal and strengthening the port complex’s operational capacity.
The project aims to double annual passenger capacity and enable the port to accommodate larger vessels. The second phase involves extending the terminal’s waterfront or berthing area from 332 to 450 meters. It also includes complementary work to take full advantage of the 13.3-meter draft achieved during the first phase of the project.
In addition to the initial investment, SSA Marine Mexico announced an additional investment of US$16 million to modernize facilities and enhance the passenger experience.
The company emphasized that the investment reflects its confidence in Progreso’s growth potential and in the development of Yucatan as a logistics and tourism hub.
The modernization of the Puerto de Altura de Progreso is a key component of infrastructure projects in southeastern Mexico, where the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec is also being developed, with the goal of connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans via a national logistics route.
Through these projects, Yucatan seeks to establish the Puerto de Progreso as a strategic hub to boost trade, tourism, investment, and job creation.
