Yucatan’s airspace restructured

YUCATAN - In order to guarantee the safety of operations at Tulum International Airport, Servicios a la Navegación en el Espacio Aéreo Mexicano (Seneam) informed that it restructured the airspace of the entire Yucatan Peninsula.

It indicated that the changes considered the interoperation of the airports of Cancun, Chetumal, Cozumel, Chichen Itza and Merida.

"in this way the growth of the current air traffic services and those of the following decades is guaranteed", it pointed out.

The deconcentrated organ explained that it was a priority to adapt the routes and flight procedures of Cancun's terminal area, since it corresponds to the airspace with the second highest demand at national level.

Seneam engineers and controllers, designed these state-of-the-art satellite flight routes and procedures, and provided the region with conventional instrument flight procedures, thus anticipating any affectation by external factors.

Tulum Airport also has modern storm detection systems using X-Band weather radar, which will help predict tropical storm and hurricane information.

In addition, Instrument Landing System procedures were designed to reinforce terminal operations in conditions of reduced visibility. As well as technological infrastructure with redundant navigation, surveillance, telecommunications and aeronautical meteorology systems to support new operations at this new airport and in the region.
