BYD Ship Arrives in Mazatlán with 2,000 Vehicles

The BYD Changzhou, a cargo ship belonging to the Chinese automotive manufacturer, docked earlier this week at the Mazatlán Maritime Terminal (TMAZ) with 2,000 vehicles of that brand.
Although the company is now in its third year of operations in the country, this is the first time that one of the company's four ships has arrived at a Mexican port.
The ship, powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), is 200 meters long and 38 meters wide and has a capacity to transport 7,000 cars, although on this occasion it was carrying just over 5,000, of which 2,000 were unloaded at the port of Mazatlán, a process that was completed within 24 hours.
The Asian automaker said earlier this year that it sold nearly 40,000 units in the Mexican market in 2024 and that it aims to double that figure in 2025, although unofficial data indicates that as of May, its sales volume was still below 30,000 units.
Like the BYD Changzhou, two other ships belonging to the company have a capacity of 7,000 units, the BYD Explorer No. 1 and the BYD Hefei, while the BYD Shenzhen can transport up to 9,200 vehicles.
