Investment in Iztapalapa announced

The Mexico City government will invest more than US$69 million in water infrastructure projects in Iztapalapa as part of its strategy to mitigate flooding during the rainy season.
During an event for the “Gobierno Casa por Casa” program, mayor Clara Brugada stated that the district has the city’s greatest needs in terms of drainage and subsidence, making it a priority for the allocation of public resources.
During the neighborhood assembly, the Secretary of Integrated Water Management, Jose Mario Esparza Hernandez, reported that this year the city government will allocate US$104 million for drainage infrastructure throughout the city, of which US$69 million will be invested in Iztapalapa.
The project includes more than a mile and a half of high-capacity piping to prevent sinkholes and flooding in the neighborhood, following the damage recorded last year.
Brugada Molina noted that the 2025 floods primarily affected Iztapalapa, Tlahuac, Venustiano Carranza, Iztacalco, and Gustavo A. Madero, which is why approximately US$175 million will be allocated for drainage projects in various areas of the capital.
