CFE prioritizes hydroelectric generation

By participating in the plenary session of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) Mexico 2026, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) not only produces clean energy but also strengthens the stability of the electricity system and drives regional development, thereby reflecting the CFE’s commitment to a more sustainable and secure energy future for Mexico.

The CFE is modernizing and strengthening its 60 hydroelectric power plants to ensure energy security, increase operational efficiency, and utilize water resources sustainably in the face of the challenges posed by climate change and growing electricity demand.

Humberto Marengo Mogollón, president of ICOLD Mexico, emphasized the importance of large dams as strategic infrastructure for national development, water supply, energy production, agricultural irrigation, and protection against extreme weather events.
