Mexicana de Aviacion files lawsuits

Mexicana de Aviacion reported litigation totaling US$855 million, according to an external audit conducted as part of the 2025 Public Accounts Report, with the main dispute involving the US company SAT Aero Holdings.

However, despite the figure acknowledged in the audit, public records of the case in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York indicate that the amount claimed in court by the company was amended to US$9.9 million.

The dispute between SAT Aero Holdings and Mexicana began over the contract under which the US company was to manage aircraft leasing, maintenance, and crew arrangements for the launch of the state-owned airline’s operations.

SAT Aero sued the Mexican airline in March 2024, alleging that Mexicana de Aviacion failed to pay deposits for the first aircraft; in contrast, the Mexican government maintained that SAT Aero was the party that failed to deliver the aircraft within the agreed-upon deadlines.

The dispute escalated in 2025, when Mexicana filed counterclaims against SAT Aero in the same lawsuit; in subsequent rulings, the US District Court for the Southern District of New York confirmed that the case remains active and that Judge Victor Marrero is reviewing the claims and counterclaims of both parties.
