ANTAD sales in Mexico fall 1.6%

Comparable sales figures from the National Association of Supermarkets and Department Stores (ANTAD) fell 1.6% in nominal terms—without adjusting for inflation—in June 2026, compared to the same month last year.

According to the private organization’s monthly report, this figure is explained by a calendar effect—due to one fewer Sunday compared to June 2025—as well as the impact of the 2026 World Cup, which temporarily altered consumer habits and reduced foot traffic at certain types of brick-and-mortar stores.

Meanwhile, the value of total sales in June—which includes data from stores that opened in the past 12 months—showed a year-over-year increase of 0.6% compared to the same month in 2025.

The results by store format, according to ANTAD, were as follows: the self-service channel saw a 2.7% decline on a same-store basis and a 0.5% decline for all stores; meanwhile, department stores reported a 3.7% decline on a same-store basis and a 2.6% decline for all stores.

On the other hand, the specialty store segment posted nominal annual growth of 3.1% on a same-store basis and 6.6% on a total-store basis.

Cumulative growth—that is, from January through June 2026—was 1.5% on a same-store basis, while total-store growth stood at 3.7%.
