Audi Reaches 1.5 Million Q5 Units in Mexico
Audi has reached a major production milestone in Mexico, manufacturing 1.5 million Q5 vehicles at its San José Chiapa facility in Puebla since operations began nearly a decade ago.
The German automaker started producing the Q5 in Mexico in September 2016, establishing the Puebla plant as a key manufacturing hub for one of its most important SUV lines. The facility currently produces both the conventional Q5 SUV and Sportback versions across their different variants.
The milestone highlights the growing importance of Mexico within Audi’s global manufacturing network. Vehicles produced in Puebla are exported to markets around the world, with China being the main exception.
According to Audi Mexico, the plant’s operations have generated more than 5,000 direct jobs and approximately 20,000 additional positions throughout its supply chain, strengthening the region’s automotive manufacturing ecosystem.
André Richter, CEO of Audi Mexico, said the production milestone reflects years of technological development, innovation and teamwork at the Puebla facility.
The achievement also reinforces Mexico’s role as a strategic base for premium vehicle manufacturing and global exports, with the San José Chiapa plant continuing to serve international markets nearly ten years after the Q5’s local production launch.
