Volkswagen Pays Tribute to the Golf Produced in Puebla
Volkswagen de México held a special exhibition featuring the four generations of the Golf produced at the Puebla plant, with the aim of recognizing the legacy of one of the brand’s most iconic models and highlighting its close connection to the automaker’s history in Mexico.
The exhibition took place at the factory and featured the most representative versions from each production stage of this iconic hatchback, which also included the Variant body style in its lineup.
The exhibition, organized on the plaza at Gate 2 of the manufacturing complex, showcased the four generations of the Golf produced by Volkswagen de México: the iconic Caribe (Golf Mk1), which began production in 1973; the Golf Mk2 and Golf Mk3, which accompanied the plant’s technological evolution and growth; and the Golf Mk7, the latest generation produced in Puebla until 2021.
Together, these versions represent more than five decades of history, totaling just over two million units produced, which cements the Golf’s status as one of the most iconic models in the German automaker’s history in Mexico—a history that to date includes more than 14.5 million units built by workers in Puebla.
Through this historical overview, plant employees were able to appreciate the model’s evolution and its impact on the development of the Mexican automotive manufacturing industry, where each vehicle exemplified Volkswagen de México’s commitment to quality, innovation, and operational excellence.
This exhibition takes on special significance in the context of the return of Golf production to Puebla, which will begin in 2027.
With this tribute, Volkswagen de México celebrates the history of a vehicle that has accompanied generations of customers around the world and is part of the production legacy of the Puebla plant, one of the Volkswagen Group’s most important facilities globally.
