Modernization of the Puebla Airport Will Begin in December

The modernization of the Puebla International Airport (AIP) will be completed by mid-2028, and operations will not be affected by the construction work being carried out, according to José Luis García Parra, the state government’s cabinet coordinator.

It was reported that work would begin in December in two simultaneous phases, so Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier is expected to present the full project in the coming days.

He explained that the final design will cost 44 million pesos, and once it is completed, bids will be solicited for the exterior construction and interior remodeling.

In total, the investment will amount to US$1 billion and will include improvements to the arrivals area, separating domestic and international flights.

The project includes expanding the service lanes from two to four; new roads; and the construction of a parking lot that will increase capacity from 200 to 628 parking spaces.

In addition, a four-lane boulevard will be built to directly connect the airport terminal with the Cholula area and the Mexico City–Puebla highway.

García Parra reported that work is underway on the project known as the “Airport District,” which calls for the development of the land located across from the “Hermanos Serdan” International Airport” through private investment.

On this site, he said, a hotel, a shopping center, and a bus terminal will be built, which will improve airport connectivity with the capital of Puebla.

He emphasized that with modern infrastructure, improved transportation systems, and better connectivity between the capital, its municipalities, and the rest of the country, the airport will be one of the most modern in the country.
