The IPM for metal products closed at 50.2 points in September
The Manufacturing Orders Index (IPM) for the metal products, machinery, equipment, and furniture sector stood at 50.2 points in September 2026, representing a 1.57-point increase compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). With this reading, the indicator remained above the 50-point threshold.
In January 2026, the sector’s index stood at 48.09 points, and from then through September, it rose by 2.11 points. Over the past few months, the sector’s PMI has exceeded the 50-point threshold on five occasions: March, April, June, August, and September.
The volume component of production, which was in line with expectations, posted the sector's best performance in September, reaching 52.28 points—a year-over-year increase of 3.81 points—and was the highest among the five components that make up the indicator.
In January, the index reached 49.66 points, representing an increase of 2.61 points over the period. It is also the only component that exceeded the 50-point threshold in September and has remained above that level for six months of the year.
The expected volume of orders closed at 49.97 points in September, marking a year-over-year increase of 1.08 points. So far this year, it has exceeded the 50-point threshold in five of the nine months.
Meanwhile, the delivery of supplies by vendors closed at 48.86 points, with a year-over-year change of 0.54 points, making it the only component that did not exceed the 50-point threshold in any month.
On the other hand, input inventories stood at 49.82 points in September, with a year-over-year change of minus 1.07 points, making it the only component of the indicator to post a negative year-over-year change for the month.
