CIMA Highlights Aeronautic Sector Challenges
According to María de la Luz Aguilera de Lucio, president of the Mexican Association of Aeronautical Engineers (CIMA), regulatory challenges and the need to strengthen training for aviation authorities remain key issues facing Mexico’s aeronautics sector.
Aguilera de Lucio said the association has held discussions with authorities to offer support in developing their technical capabilities.
“We want to support the authorities by providing the training they need to establish standards themselves; otherwise, all of this will be lost,” she said.
She also attended the 70th-anniversary celebration of the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), where she referred to financial support intended to improve salaries and training for the agency’s personnel.
“I hope the MX$1.4 trillion (US$74,866 million) is truly earmarked for that purpose,” she said.
During her remarks, Aguilera de Lucio highlighted the rapid growth of Mexico’s aerospace industry and the role Mexican engineers are playing in driving innovation.
“Innovation is something that unites us. While air travel was once the latest frontier, we now face new challenges, including venturing into space,” she said.
She added that Mexican engineers are increasingly exploring space-related fields, including rocket development. In recognition of these advances, three engineers working in this area, as well as in drone technology, received awards.
